Geist Reservoir
Geist Reservoir is a 1,900 acre waterway that is located in Marion, Hamilton and Hancock counties. It was originally built in the early 1940′s as an additional source of water. It is named after Clarence Geist, who was a former owner of the Indianapolis Water Company and instrumental in envisioning Geist Reservoir as a solution to the deficit in the Indianapolis water supply.
Geist is one of three main bodies of water for boating and skiing in the Indianapolis area and Geist is the most popular. Typically to get a home with waterfront views, you will need to spend north of $500,000.
Many people who live in Geist buy their home for the water; there are many others who love to play golf! So where are the homes on golf courses in Geist?
The most obvious choice is The Hawthornes; with its 275 acres of woods and wetlands. This is a private club and does offer private lessons.
Another popular course is Ironwood Golf Club. This course has 27 challenging and scenic holes surrounded by some great neighborhoods.
A little deeper into the Geist area is Old Oakland Golf Club. The 27 holes cover over 220 acres. Neighborhoods near this golf course include Oakland Hills.
The last golf course I will mention is one at Fort Ben. It was designed by Pete Dye and has 238 acres and 18 holes. The Fort Golf Course is located at 6002 N Post Road, just minutes from Indianapolis.
