Local Fishers Realtor, Cindy Marchant, Shares Her Insights on Conner Prairie
As I compile monthly events for Fishers, I am never let down by Conner Prairie because they ALWAYS have something new and exciting to check out. Conner Prairie is one reason why buying a home in Fishers is a great idea! This Fishers Realtor Highlights Conner Prairie!
Conner Prairie is an interactive history park, located just north of 131st Street off Allisonville Road, and it never ceases to amaze and delight all of its guests. Step back in time to 1836 Prairietown and experience what life was like at that time. Go to school in the schoolhouse, meet the townspeople, even earn wages (to spend at Whitaker’s general store) from performing various chores! Will you decide to settle in Prairietown and help decide its fate or will you keep moving West to explore the unknown?
Another adventure at Conner Prairie is the 1863 Civil War Journey! In this experience, you will be a part of a raid on Dupont by the Confederate General John Hunt Morgan and his cavalry of 2,000 men! There are activities for every age from exploring a soldier’s camp to gathering supplies to participating in military drills! There are even water cannons and a steamboat for little ones to explore!
The last main adventure at Conner Prairie that I wanted to highlight is the 1859 Balloon Voyage! Learn about the inspiration by visiting the Flight School! Then take a stroll through the historically accurate 1859 Lafayette, Indiana. Lastly, top off the adventure with a hot air balloon flight that allows you to see the world from 350 feet high!
During the summer, the Prairie is also home to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. They perform in an outdoor pavilion amidst people scattered across the lawns with their picnic baskets and chairs. The last two concerts of the summer are this weekend! Tonight features The Hit Men: Legends of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons! Saturday, August 30th features Preservation Hall Jazz Band!
In November, there is an event called Follow The North Star. If you have not yet participated, I would urge you to do so. This experience will take you on the Underground Railroad where you are fleeing captivity and risking everything for freedom. In light of everything that is going on in our country right now, take a moment on this journey to consider where we were, where we are, and where we have yet to go.
Other upcoming events are The Apple Store which opens September 1st! The Apple Store features goodies such as: hand-dipped caramel apples (last year they dipped over 14,000 caramel apples!), cider slushies, popcorn, jams and jellies, Amish goods, and so, so much more! Additional events include Hayrides and Headless Horsemen during Halloween and Gingerbread Houses at Christmas, which are truly works of art!
